Various news sources have reported on the movie box office results for this year's "Fourth of July weekend". The Movie Hancock starring Will Smith topped the box office sales this year. But with a respectable $66 million opening, it failed to surpass the previous July fourth movie opening of Michael Bay's Transformers, which last year opened at $70.5 million in ticket sales. Total ticket sales of the top 12 movies during the July 4th weekend totaled at $158.7 million. Which is down 4 percent from the July 4th weekend of last year.
